First Allotment Tidy up, ready for AUTUMN

Spent the day tiding up around the Allotment, now that autumn is here. Cleared the poly-tunnel of the old tomato plants, weeded around the fruit bushes, cabbages (Kilaton F1) and the still growing Courgettes (All Green Bush).

We have been removing the dead and wilting leaves from these plants during the growing season to try and prolong the harvest and small fruits and flowers are still growing on the plants so we may get a few more before the frosts come.

The Brussels Sprout 'Bright' F1 Hybrid are looking good, planted in with the Parsnip 'Gladiator' F1 Hybrids, we stripped the leaves from the stalks, which is supposed to promote the Brussel florets into to forming. We will see how these progress between now and hopefully harvesting for Xmas dinner.

Our Cabbage Kilaton F1 plants have been really successful this year, in the past we have not done all that well with cabbages, but these Kilaton's have been fantastic, a nice tight ball of sweet cabbage far better than the ones in the shops. We have harvested 3 so far this year with lot more to come.

We grew Tabasco chillies in the green house this year, the seeds where planted on New Years day 2020 and over 10 months growing all 9 plants are only now starting to ripen. There are masses of unripe fruit on the plants but the cooler nights are now taking its toll.
