Paid the Allotment Fee of £19.76 Per Year this weekend. So that is us set for another year of growing. Due to Covid 19 this year we had to pay via bank transfer, and to be honest, it's a far better way of paying your subscription fee. In years past, we had 2 weekends to pay, last weekend in February and 1st weekend in March. This meant cueing and paying cash or a cheque.
Moved the old poly-tunnel frame that has been converted into a Brassica netted cage to this years spot. Going to put Kale - Borecole Vates Blue Curled, Borecole Nero di Toscana and the Cabbages (Late Summer/Autumn) - All Season Mix in there this year. Going to cut back on the Borecole Vates Blue Curled to about a meter square this year, with the same for the Borecole Nero di Toscana. The rest of the Brassica cage will be the Cabbages. It all depends on how many plants that we get to germinate, as last year we found extra space around the allotment for the extra Cabbage (Kilaton F1) and because we did we are still getting a crop from these now.
Started to dig over the areas for the Courgette Black Beauty and the Climbing Beans, Cobra and Goldfield, and we still need to dig over the area for the next batch of Broad beans, this time it's Bunyards Exhibition.
Also a spot has been earmarked for Beetroot "Boltardy" on the fruit side of the plot, that spot is going to have to have a lot of preparation as it's full of grass and weeds on that side.
The garlic's seem to be doing good, a few weeds starting to pop up in that bed, but not to bad at the moment, the garlic look like they are growing nicely even with the very wet and cold weather we have had recently.
The Broad Bean 'Aquadulce Claudia' took a little bit of a battering, so we have supported them with canes and string to help them along a bit. This is the 1st time we have done an over wintered broad bean so we are learning as time goes on.
