1st Proper harvest, Aquadulce Claudia Broad Beans

A lovely sunny day and the first proper harvest of the year. The Aquadulce Claudia Broad Beans that we over-wintered way back in October 2020.

We picked 5kg of pods in one go and there are still quite a few more to come. A super haul of nice fresh veg for the freezer.

They do say that by growing Broad Beans you cover the price your rent for the Allotment. We came pretty close so far in what we have picked. Currently they cost £3.00 per Kg in the supermarkets. So with the 5kg and last weeks small handful ( 935g ) it would have come to £17.81 with the Allotment rent at £19.76 Per Year plus the Broad Bean 'Aquadulce Claudia' seeds at £3.49 we where just £5.50 short of breaking even on the rent.

Be nice if we get another 2 kg from these plants this year just to offset the Allotment rent.

Now it's just a podding session at home and then getting them ready for the freezer bags at 250g per bag.

Eight bags at 250g each now in the Freezer with a few left for dinner tonight. 2kg of Broad Beans all stored safely away for the coming months.
