Update on the Allotment for August (week 31) : Bumper Harvest

Well, a quick visit to the Allotment for what we thought was for a bit of Kale (Nero Di Toscana) and a few courgettes (Black Beauty) turned out to be a bumper of a harvest. Along with the Kale and Courgettes, we picked our first Cabbage of the year, some more tomatoes, some Broad Beans (Bunyards Exhibition) that we must have missed, and also the first Climbing French Bean (Cobra) from the few seeds that did germinate that where direct sown back in May 2021. Also a couple more green sweet peppers, that yet again had got a bit nibbled from the snails.

The Cabbage, not sure which type it is but it was a cracker weighing in at 950g, and the four courgettes at a whopping 2kg.

The rest of the Thor F1 peppers are growing a lot better now with a weekly feed with some fertilizer and now are a much better colour, the peppers are growing well and are getting big. We hope this year that we can get them to ripen fully to Red by having them in the greenhouse. We have now taken four home that have been pest damaged.

Seems the saved seed from the sunflowers last year are BIG sunflowers, they have not flowered yet so they are still growing and are already over 9ft high. We will have to save some seed again from these for next year.

The winter Squash "Uchiki Kuri" that had set fruit has put on quite a bit of weight in the last week, a few more fruit have also set, with the plants starting to work their way over the ground. Harvest time for these from the back of the packet is Sept-Oct so they have plenty of time yet, just got to keep them under control a bit.
